Leaking flanges, resulting in the products penetrating the insulation. The damage may be considerable even if the product is nonflammable. Flammable products can pose a serious hazard, particularly if the pipe work is fitted with electrical tracing.
Use completely sealing flange protectors, e.g. type "T" with couplings, extended with a stainless steel tube to the outside of the insulation. This will protect the insulation against possible leakages from the flange connection. Basically the materials consist of a stainless steel outer cladding and an inner cover of Teflon with a temperature range between -269 up to +350°C. It is possible to further extend the stainless steel connection with a Teflon hose extending outside the insulation.
